And The Winner Is…

Argan oil!  It’s the star component in MoroccanOil professional products.  This extraordinary “super-ingredient” is derived from the argan tree, which is known to be indigenous only to the arid and often harsh climate of Morocco.  For hundreds of years it was familiar only to the native people of that area.

As one of the only flourishing vegetation sources in the region, it is utilized as food, shelter and a medicinal cure-all, in much the same way neighboring Mediterraneans used olive trees and oil.

It’s as if Mother Nature took many of the great properties, afforded separately by other sources, and packed them all into a small fruit-covered nut on a tree in a remote place.  And now, the treasure has been uncovered!

When seeing the rejuvenating, fortifying and styling capacity argan oil brings to beauty products, it’s no wonder that it is now embraced worldwide.

Argan oil contains natural moisturizers that help fortify and heal distressed and damaged hair.  It adds a natural protection and a light hydration that can be applied to multiple hair types.  The chemists at MoroccanOil have championed this versatility with formulas that tame frizz, reduce drying time, add shine, moisture and strength.  There is truly something for EVERYONE, no matter the hair type or style.

Argan oil contains natural tocopherols (Vitamin E) and Vitamin F, which promote strength, protection and durability in hair and skin.   It contains betacarotene, the natural healer found in dark leafy-greens and pigmented plants like carrots, pumpkin and sweet potato.  It is found to be even more resistant to oxidation than olive oil, and shares this property with hair and skin when applied, helping to create a residue-resistant, light feel.  It also contains the following fatty acids: oleic acid (omega-9, found in olive oil), linoleic acid (omega-6, found in cocoa/shea butter), palmitic (omega, found in palm oils), and stearic acid (omega, a natural softening agent).

As a food and food additive, argan oil is recognized as a combatant to obesity, cardiovascular disease and an aid to reduce harmful LDL-cholesterol and triglycerides.   But don’t start swigging from your shampoo bottle yet!

As a MoroccanOil partner salon, we were chosen to share all these benfits with you! Over the past several months, with the purchase of (2) MoroccanOil products, your names were entered into a special giveaway.  MoroccanOil, in conjunction with our local distributor, TruStar Salon Services donated gift sets worth over $375 to use for pampering and beautification.

And the winners are… Austyn McAllister and Esther Tomcykoski!

Our stylists are proud to use MoroccanOil products at the shampoo and styling stations.  Our manicurists will soon be integrating the Moroccanoil Body care line into their services!

Stop in and give it a test drive!

Who says there’s no autumn in South Florida?

Summer is coming to a close, and fast approaching is the season of candy corn, spiced cider and crackling leaves under foot.  Visitors of the North will be traversing toward the land of perpetual summer– South Florida.

But, who says we do not, or cannot have a proper fall in a place where palm trees are always swaying and the soft swish of turquoise waves constantly call us?  We’ve come up with short a list of reasons why locals, and those who join them this time of year, have every reason to celebrate the traditional aspects of the fall season.

5. We definitely dress up for Halloween, and our costumes won’t require long-johns underneath to stay warm.

4. We still get to enjoy pumpkin spiced lattes– only ours come over ice, and we sip them lying poolside.

3. We can take full advantage of the later sunrise, with a morning stroll on the beach– in our SHORTS!

2. We spend less time raking leaves, and can devote that time to fun and leisure.

1. We can still take hair color inspiration from the deep and rich autumnal palette– but don’t have to hide that beauty from the world under hats, scarves and beanies!

A breathtaking glimpse of the range of color and richness fall provides.

Just as the trees in nature shed their spring and summer growth in beautiful arrays of gold, burnt orange, deep rust, chestnut, mahogany, and each hue in between, fall is the perfect time to trim away any unhealthy ends, summer damage or overgrowth your hair has accumulated.

But, as the natural world lays dormant for winter until a spring awakening, you need not wait that long to reap the benefits of healthier hair.  Take this autumn as an opportunity to bring forth the natural and rich tones in your hair color– and maybe even try a new look altogether.  And if you stay in South Florida, you’re sure to find a bathing suit to match!!

The happy medium between Marilyn Monroe and Janis Joplin

We are in the last few weeks of Summer… but here in South Florida, Summer sun and highlights are possible all year long.  The topic at hand is how to achieve truly natural sun-kissed hair color.  It is important for the blonde tones to not overpower or end up brassy.  The natural undertones shouldn’t be too dark or “blah”, drowning out your complexion.  Our goal at Salon Bongini is to achieve perfectly natural highlights by taking the time to study your natural color and undertones.  We will select the perfect color(s) and possibly a toner for you.  There is a happy medium out there for everyone… somewhere between Marilyn Monroe and Janis Joplin.

See below for some of our favorite before and afters.

CNN’s take on Moroccanoil

Moroccanoil combined contemporary and traditional methods to truly revitalize hair.  CNN’s Erin Burnett travels to Israel and discovers the hottest hair product in the world, Moroccanoil.

One of the ingredients of Moroccanoil is Argan oil.  The Argan oil tree is only found in south West Morocco Argana. Argan oil is
made from the nut of argans tree fruit. Moroccanoil’s Argan oil is harvested under a fair trade program which provides substantial socio-economic support to thousands of families in the Souss-Massa region of Morocco. Revenue from this project provides income to families and helps improve the working conditions of rural women.  Read more…

A powerful antioxidant and UV protector, Moroccanoil’s proprietary Argan oil blend is rich in vitamins and natural elements that fortify the hair, including Vitamin F (Omega 6), Vitamin A to improve elasticity, Vitamin E to protect against free-radicals, and Phenols to shield against environmental stressors. Salon-exclusive Moroccanoil products have a strong following among leading runway, film, television and celebrity stylists who search for the very finest for their A-list clients.

Will Moroccanoil make my hair oily?  Moroccanoil does not make the hair oily, it provides all critical vitamins and nutrients to make the hair smoother and more manageable.  A small amount goes a long way.  Those who experience oily hair are using too much of the product.

Quantity… The quantity needed depends on the client.  The texture, volume and chemical treatments all play a part in the quantity.  Highlighted hair will need more than “virgin”/untreated hair.  Thick hair requires more product than those with fine hair.

Summer Hair in South Florida…humid.

Summer Hair should be like a day at the beach… relaxed, luminous and gorgeous!  The South Florida Summer sun and humidity make these beach-like characteristics tough to attain.  The Summer heat can be damaging to your hair’s cuticle resulting in dry, dull or frizzy hair..and there’s nothing gorgeous about frizz.

Get beachy with our Summer Hair Care Tips:

Protect: Use a thermal protectant like the Davines Melu Shield to both seal and protect hair.  Melu Shield is rich in essential oils and antioxidants to create a strong conditioning power.  Davines developed the Melu Shield to protect hair to up to 428 degrees F, when using blowdryers/irons to style hair can also help protect hair in high heat/sun exposure.  Apply the Davines Melu Shield evenly to locks of dry or damp hair before heating/styling hair, for all day protection and a great look.

Condition: We love the Davines DeDe and Melu Conditioners.  DeDe is a light leave-in spritz treatment enhanced with grape seed extract and includes a UV protectant. Ideal for all hair types, to be used prior to sun exposure.  The Melu deep conditioner is perfect for a long day out in the Sun.  Nourish your hair by washing gently and applying Melu deep conditioner, leave on for 2-5 minutes then rinse. The Melu deep conditioner is enhanced with Apricot butter to nourish dry, damaged hair.

Prepare and Feed:  Prepare your hair before going into a pool by wetting your hair with clean water. Wetting your hair prior to swimming closes the cuticle and helps protect it from harsh chemicals.  Feed your hair by drinking plenty of water and eating green leafy vegetables.

Consume fruits and vegetables that have high water content such as melon, watermelon and red tomatoes, as these are beneficial for your hair. Also, ensure that your diet is rich in proteins.

Enjoy: Enjoy your relaxed, luminous and gorgeous beach-like mane.
